Family of former NFL player accused of murdering his mother says football is to blame
Family members say De'von Hall has been mentally ill for years, and they point to the damage he suffered during his football career. (AP Photo)A former NFL player is in a Los Angeles jail, accused of murdering his mother. De'Von Hall was released by the Buccaneers in Aug. 2010. A native of Los Angeles who played college ball at Utah State, the 29-year-old Hall had a short NFL career as a defensive back. According to CBS L.A., the family said that Hall had suffered numerous concussions while playing college and pro football.(Courtesy of Stan Coleman)At Utah State, Hall started the season opener at linebacker as a true freshman. Like so many other players clinging to the fringe of the NFL, Hall's name made regular appearances in the league's transaction reports. The player Copp remembered as one of the sweetest kids he had ever coached had become a stranger who barely recalled playing for Utah State. Hall's mother tried to convince him to move into a furnished apartment. At Utah State, former defensive coordinator Mark Johnson, Copp and several teammates didn't recall Hall sustaining a concussion.
