NFL wrapping up its investigation into Ezekiel Elliott incidents according to : NFL.com

The investigatory part of the process is nearing completion, sources say, and the league has shared its findings with the NFLPA, Elliott and his representatives. The incident from Sunday is not part of the NFL's investigation into the prior assault allegations, a source with knowledge of the investigation said, and would not factor into any potential discipline stemming from this current probe. Dallas police announced Wednesday they were suspending their investigation into that matter and have not named any suspect or mentioned Elliott. Elliott spoke to league investigators last fall and has expressed frustration the NFL's probe hasn't concluded, as have his attorney and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. The report the NFL sent to the NFLPA made no recommendation one way or another on potential discipline, according to two people who have seen it.

On the other hand, it's a punishment from the NFL league office. There might not be enough in place to suspend Elliott for any one incident. There is more proof of this: on Friday, NFL.com reported that the league is wrapping up its investigation into Elliott. According to the NFL.com report, "The NFL players Association recently filed to the NFL what the union, Ezekiel Elliott and his representatives hope is a final response that answers any lingering questions remaining in the league's year-long investigation." Now we are squarely in the time of year when the NFL starts dumping punishments on various players, and it's possible the Elliott suspension could be coming fairly soon.

Ezekiel Elliott NFL Investigation Reportedly Near Conclusion

Joe Robbins/Getty ImagesThe NFL recently shared details from its year-long investigation into off-field events regarding Ezekiel Elliott with the Dallas Cowboys running back, his representatives and the NFL Players Association. Schefter previously noted the Cowboys' playmaker was bracing for a "short suspension" from the NFL once the investigation was complete. Elliott led the NFL with 1,631 rushing yards last season—318 more than any other player—and scored 15 touchdowns during a standout rookie campaign. Earl Rinehart of the Columbus Dispatch reported Tiffany Thompson told police Elliott assaulted her over a period of days. Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL.com reported the update Friday and noted the entire probe is "nearing completion."
